- PREFIX /prɪˈfɛks/ · noun
- A letter or group of letters added to the beginning of a word to form a new word; a word or phrase added to the beginning of another word or phrase to indicate its meaning or origin. Related: foreword, prologue, introduction, prefix.
- SUFFIX /sʌfɪks/ · noun
- A letter or group of letters added to the end of a word to form a new word or to change its meaning. A suffix is a morpheme that is attached to the end of a word. Related: appendage, addition, extension, ending.
- ROOT /rʊt/ · noun, verb
- The part of a plant that grows underground and produces roots, or the central part of a tree or shrub from which branches grow. To remove the root of a plant, or to find and remove the cause of a problem. Related: base, foundation, source, origin.
