- NOTE /noʊt/ · noun, verb
- A written or printed symbol or character used to represent a sound or a group of sounds in a language. A brief comment or remark, especially one written or typed. Related: remark, comment, annotation, notation.
- RHYTHM /ˈrɪðəm/ · noun, verb
- A pattern of sounds and silences in speech or music, or a natural flow of movement or action. To move or proceed in a rhythmic manner. Related: cadence, meter, pulse, cadency.
- BEAT /biːt/ · verb
- To strike repeatedly and forcefully, or to defeat someone in a competition, contest, or conflict. As a noun it also denotes a rhythmic pulse or a regular patrol route. Related: defeat, strike, pound, thump.
- TEMPO /tɛmpoʊ/ · noun, verb
- The speed or rate at which music is played; a rate of movement or activity. In music, tempo is often indicated by a metronome mark or the first note of a piece. Related: speed, rate, pace, velocity.
