- MOUNTAIN /ˈmaʊntɪn/ · noun
- A natural elevation of the earth's surface rising more or less abruptly to a summit, and attaining an altitude greater than that of a hill, usually over 300 meters (1,000 feet). Related: hill, peak, ridge, slope.
- VOLCANO /ˈvɒl.kə.noʊ/ · noun
- A mountain that opens downward to a bottomless pit or a vent in the Earth's surface, typically at the top of which is a vent or fissure from which lava, ash, and gases are emitted. Related: mountain, peak, hill, crater.
- PLATEAU /ˈplætoʊ/ · noun
- A flat or elevated area of land, often with steep sides, or a period of little or no change in a particular situation or activity. Related: flat, level, plain, tableland.
- CANYON /ˈkænjən/ · noun
- A deep, narrow valley with steep sides, typically carved by a river cutting through rock over a long period of time. Related: gorge, ravine, gulch, defile.
