- A team sport played by two teams of six players each, in which players hit a ball over a net that divides the court, trying to make the ball land on the opponent's court. Related: handball, badminton, racquetball, paddleball.
- SPIKE /ˈspaɪk/ · noun, verb
- A sharp or pointed object, especially one with a narrow, tapering end. To pierce or wound with a sharp object. Related: prick, thorn, point, needle.
- SETTER /ˈsɛtər/ · noun
- A person who sets something, especially a dog that is trained to retrieve game. A setter is a type of gun dog. Related: pointer, retriever, gun dog, setter dog.
- LIBERO /ˈliːbəroʊ/ · noun
- A player in the sport of volleyball who specializes in defensive skills and is restricted to playing in the back row. Related: defensive specialist.
