- The coldest season of the year, typically from December to February in the Northern Hemisphere, and from June to August in the Southern Hemisphere. A period of cold weather, especially one that is prolonged. Related: cold, frost, ice, snow.
- SUMMER /ˈsʌmər/ · noun
- The warmest season of the year, typically lasting from June to August in the Northern Hemisphere, characterized by long days, warm temperatures, and often dry conditions. The period of the year when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. Related: vacation, holiday, season, heat.
- AUTUMN /ˈɔːtəm/ (US also /ˈɑːtəm/) · noun
- The season between summer and winter, during which temperatures cool and deciduous trees shed their leaves; in the Northern Hemisphere it spans roughly September to November. It is chiefly British usage, with 'fall' being the standard North American equivalent. Related: fall, harvest time.
